Here is the final pic for my first foray back into painting in a very long time -- and I genuinely loved the hell out of working on it. I tried something new, both in medium and subject matter and it has me feeling pretty good about this being where my new artistic journey is beginning. The framing job is all me, too. I do my own mating, glass cutting... you name it. It is becoming almost as cathartic as painting, itself.
*Sighs* Just taking a second to appreciate the beginning, middle and end of this - the proverbial rose smelling. Now, on to the next project!!
I have been so incredibly busy lately... needless to say, my sketch-a-day endeavors have been severely lacking. While I do sketch on most days, they are not making it on here. So for the next few weeks, I am going to develop some of my sketches into fully painted illustrations and take my time. I need the practice on both ends after being away for so long. I only get to paint mostly on the weekends, so I will post my progress as I forge ahead on each new work.
Here is a picture of where I was last week on this watercolor. This is my first watercolor painting and I find that I am laying it on pretty thick - it almost looks like acrylic. It will take a little bit to get use to the medium but I love it so far!! Now, If I can just loosen up and keep it light.
I finally picked up a pencil and sat down at my table with the goal of new work. This is also my first entry into my Sketch-A-Day gallery. I started of with a slight idea of the box and swirl patterns around the outside. As it progressed, I began to think of Mike Mignola's incredible work and decided to draw a skull in homage. The skull led to the idea of the scene in Shakespeare which evolved into the skull looking upon another skull along with the quote ( you provide your own interpretation). I have it in my head to do a watercolor wash with this. If you look closely you can see my notes for color written around the drawing. I am eager to see where this goes...
1492 --It was the year I became a vampire. Apparently, It was also the year Columbus sailed the ocean blue. I had only landed on earth a few years prior from an "ancient" alien civilization that ironically was still more advance than you are, today... but no one is gloating. I have settled quite comfortably into a small life with my family in South Korea as a photographer and sometimes multimedia illustrator. I aspire to one day draw graphic novels because that sounds way more sophisticated than drawing comic books. My interests include film, music, art and ancient advanced alien technology (again... not gloating) and I'm just hoping to find a few friends here with similar interest.
